Network Related Security Information:
Printer/Copier VLAN - Printers and copiers have an ever increasing feature set that is often overlooked or under documented. These devices are often easily compromised and this compromise may lead to the loss or compromise of protected data. For this reason TNS has established protected VLANs for all printers and copiers. When submitting DHCP registation forms, please indicate that this is a printer/copier.
Administrative Building VLANs - Each permanent building on campus has at least one "administrative VLAN". Administrative VLANs are intended for departmental computers.
Academic Building VLANs - Each permanent building on campus has at least one "Academic VLAN". Academic VLANs are intended for academic uses such as computer labs. Computers that have access to or contain confidential protected data should not be placed in the Academic VLAN.
Border Firewall Project: Completed.
See the Campus Border Firewall page for more information.
IFD Login Page: Login to the Internet Facing Device registration system to register systems that need to be available from the Internet.
Port Security - Port Security is a switch setting defined by the Chancellor's Office ITRP and ITRP2 security guildlines. When more than 3 computers are attached to a single jack or "port" the port will disable itself. If you need to add computers to the network, please contact TNS at extension 5000.
Security Scans - Security scans are conducted routinely by TNS to identify systems with weak network security. Results of these scans are confidential and protected. Departmental personnel assistance me be requested to better secure systems where vulnerabilities are detected.
DHCP Required - In order to comply with Chancellor's Office ITRP and ITRP2 security guildlines, computers connected to the HSU network must utilize DHCP to function properly.
