HSU Web Server Accounts
HSU offers a three-tier approach to web services:
Web Sites For Departments and Official Sites: Central Web (www.humboldt.edu) - (for sftp access use hsu-web.humboldt.edu).
Web Sites For Individuals (students, staff, and faculty): Users Web (users.humboldt.edu).
Web Sites For Instruction: Moodle (learn.humboldt.edu).
A Note About Confidential Data
No confidential information (Social Security Numbers, Grades, Dates of Birth, Medical/Health Records etc.) should be collected or stored on the web servers. For more information on protecting our information, visit www.humboldt.edu/security.
Getting Started on the HSU Web Server
Departmental/Official Sites
The Central HSU Web server (www.humboldt.edu) hosts all official Department or Official University sites. The server is for departmental websites and initiatives that aid in the positive reinforcement of the University to outside constituents, and facilitate the recruitment of students, staff, faculty, and donors. Campus club sites are facilitated through the Clubs office (707) 826-3776. All sites on this server must meet Accessibility Guidelines.
Getting an Account - Account request instructions.
Becoming a Developer - Register as a Developer to work on sites.
Account Activation Process - Pending Approved, Hidden, Public, Redirected

Individual/Faculty Sites
Your account on HSUs web server (users.humboldt.edu) can be used to develop your own personal web site. It is your responsibility to learn how to design and maintain your site. Faculty sites on this server must meet Accessibility Guidelines.

Publishing Your Site - Instructions on using SFTP to transfer a web site from the desktop to users.humboldt.edu.
Web Development
Web page development requires both technical and design skills. Style guides are useful in providing design, layout, basic html instructions and guidelines. Web authoring programs offer sophisticated visual-design tools. Multimedia editing tools allow you to customize images, graphics, audio, and video files for use in your web pages.
