Mac Mail

Mac Mail can be used together with the Connector for Apple iSync to access the Zimbra Collaboration Suite server and synchronize data to and from the Mac.

Mac Mail comes with the OS X operating system for Apple computers. We recommend that you use IMAP to keep your mail on the server and available to you via Webmail when you travel.

Configure Mac Mail

  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. In the Mail pull-down menu, select Preferences.
  3. Click the + to add a new account
  4. Complete the form as follows:

    • Full Name
    • Email Address
    • Password
  5. Click Continue
  6. Complete the form as follows:


    • Account Type: IMAP (or POP if you are using POP)
    • Description: HSU Mail
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.humboldt.edu (or pop.humboldt.edu if you are using pop)
  7. Click Continue


    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.humboldt.edu
      Check "Use Authentication"
  8. Click Continue
  9. Click Create

Verify Your Settings

  1. Return to the Account window (Mail > Preferences > Accounts)

  2. Click the Advanced tab

    • Choose Use SSL. Set the Port number to 993 for IMAP.

      If you are using POP, set the Port number to 995.
  3. Return to the Account Information Tab
  4. Use the pull-down menu next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to select Edit SMTP Server List...
  5. Click the Advanced Tab
    • Choose Use custom port. Set the Port number to 465.
    • Check Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    • Choose Authentication: Password
    • Enter your User Name
    • Click OK
  6. Close the Preferences window and then Save to complete the setup process.
