Concord
Grapes...
This struggling vine started as a cutting from my Mother's grape arbor.
The parent plant thrives in the more suitable sunny climate of Sonoma County,
CA, and produces lots of fruit for jelly, wine, or snacks ... and lots of shade.
The weather here is cooler; and the growing season shorter. Chances
of an edible crop are slim, but I like the foliage ... which changes in the fall from
green to shades of yellow, orange, and red. Its addition
to my garden is not for its fruit but as a memory from the past .. of my Father's
vineyard, of my Grandfather's arbor, and of my Mother's arbor, which was created from the vines
we had given her.
Vitus labrusca.
