Wild
Rose ...
Rosa
bourgeauiana
Unlike
the more well-known multi-layered tea roses and floribundas, this rose has a single layer
of petals which form a deep cup-shaped receptacle. The center is
filled with yellow bristle-like pistils, which become hard seed-like fruit.
This plant grew wild and invaded my garden. Although I tried valiantly
to get rid of this "weed," I soon grew to appreciate its tenacity and simple
beauty. Now it is one of my favorites. And when we moved recently, I made sure
I had a transplant ... which is currently thriving in a flower-pot saucer on my deck.
Maybe next year it will be mature enough to flower ...
