Sweet
Peas ...
One of my favorite
flowers ... Pastel pink and lavender blooms filled the baskets
carried by my bridesmaids at my wedding.
And they grew in abundance in my childhood garden ... thick, bushy plants ... loaded
with light pink or darker rose-pink blossoms ... started from seeds my
Mother had given me. I have tried many times since then to grow sweet
peas ... and these frail-looking plants have been the only "successful"
planting. There are many varieties available (annuals or perennials,
bush or vine). These fragrant, colorful blossoms can be enjoyed from
mid-winter through summer, depending on the climate. They require very
little care (once they sprout!), may become wild and naturalized; and most
need sun and well-drained soil.
