  Unidentified Tolowa-Tututni relatives.    My mother Mercedes Whipple Giovannetti and family friend Wes Lancaster. Wes and my father Frank Giovannetti served aboard the USS Mahan, a destroyer. Wes and my dad were both transferred from the ship before it was hit by kamakazie planes at the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. 
  Four generations of one Tolowa family: 1951 (left-right) Delmar Whipple, Jr., Joe Giovannetti, Delmar Whipple, Sr. (1899-1957), Mercedes Whipple Giovannetti (1926-1991), Marie Giovannetti (infant) and patriarch Louis Whipple (1873-1961).   
March 6, 1971 -- First place finish by Joe Giovannetti at Chico State University establishes Humboldt St.-Chico Dual meet record in the half-mile and also grabs NCAA Division II early season lead.
My great grandmother  (Ida Bob),  (1880-1911).  Her parents were Dronth-dos (Long Hair Bob) and Cha-guth-us (Amelia).  My grandpa Delmar said his grandma Amelia used to carry him  many places in a woman's burden basket "until he was as big as a horse."
