I am still building this page, please be patient.
I canned for the first time this weekend; instead of making yummy pickles or tomato paste, I canned
yeast starters for my beer! I read a really good article in Brew Your Own magazine, and one of my goals
in making my beer better has been to increase the pitching amount of the yeast. One way of doing this
to make a yeast starter, but making one is time consuming and there's no way to keep it, except to can it!
So, now I'm ready to make beer better. The next step it to do more canning, and to start brewing all-grain
Also, with all the large zucchinis I got out of the garden, I have cored them and now have over 2 gallons
of zucchini pulp I am making zucchini bread with. So far I have made 3 batches and I barely made a dent
in the pulp! I have a really good recipe I've been using from recipezaar.com, however I modified it and
add a lot more zucchini than they recommend.
On Labor Day weekend I was fortunate enough to find a new scottish cookbook to play with. So far the
recipes have been excellent, but I would like to cook out of it more than once a week. As a result, my
garden plan has been expanded for next year as well; somehow I need to get my parsnips to sprout!
I also have given some more attention to the Celtic Cookbook I picked up last year at the Scottish Games,
especially the drink section. I am planning on adding a heather garden so I can cook and brew with the
Clan Donald badge soon. Our local Glenmar Heather Nursery owner Maria is helping me design a colorful and
useful garden; I just need to get the dirt ready now!
