The Department of Plant Operations at Humboldt State University is expanding its number of temporary, intermittent hourly pool employees who are available to work on an as-needed basis in the classification of Carpenter I and Painter I.
The applicant pool will be reviewed as openings occur within this classification. Qualified persons will be appointed for time periods up to 18 months (according to union contract) and work on an as-needed basis. Additional appointments will be based upon available funding and satisfactory performance. The Carpenter I and Painter I pool will expire February 1, 2007.
(JOB #32) CARPENTER I $23.59 – $28.30/HR. (Appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range).
DUTIES: Under general supervision the Carpenter will: erect, maintain and repair various types of buildings, sheds, scaffolds, forms, frames, fences, roofs and other structures; make cupboards, lockers, shelves, doors and window frames; hang doors; keep tools, materials and equipment in good condition; requisition and store building materials and supplies; and perform required preventative maintenance programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience as a carpenter which demonstrates achievement of a journey level of skill equivalent to that acquired through completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program, i.e., a “journey level of skill equivalent” is a least four years of experience in the carpenter's trade which gives evidence of the possession of a full spectrum of skills in that trade.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SPECIALIZED SKILLS: General knowledge of the various building and safety codes and of various methods, materials, tools and equipment used in that particular filed. Must possess the ability to make estimates, keep records and make reports; to read and write a level appropriate to the duties of the position; and ability to read blueprints. Must be able to frame using steel or wood and hang and finish drywall. All applicants must have a valid California Driver's license and must possess the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the campus community. Successful candidate must possess good work habits and the ability to work under close supervision or independently with general directions.
