
Development Officer for the College of Natural Resources and Sciences
(Administrator II)
Humboldt State University invites applications for the position of Development Officer for the College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS). The Development Officer is responsible for developing and implementing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and goals for prospects and donors. The Development Officer sets and achieves fund-raising goals and personally solicits top prospects and donors. This position also provides support to the academic departments and others involved with raising funds; oversight for fundraising events; leadership for development strategies and goal setting. Public relations responsibilities include liaison service between the University and community groups to share information about the College. The Development Officer reports both to the Dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences and to the Vice President for University Advancement.
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have at least three years of experience in building major donor relationships and have held progressively responsible leadership positions. In addition, excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to embrace responsibilities with enthusiasm, energy, flexibility and initiative are a must. A bachelor's degree in science, mathematics, or engineering from an accredited institution is required. Candidates with equivalent experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education fund raising is highly desirable, especially with experience in science-related areas. Experience running a successful capital campaign is also an advantage. Fund raising certification, such as Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and/or Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG), and a post-baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, particularly in a science field, are preferred.
Compensation: The position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment. The position is covered by the California State University Management Personnel Plan and has an excellent benefits package. Under this plan, incumbents are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the pleasure of the University President. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, but is expected to range between $60,000 and $80,000. The College of Natural Resources and Sciences has 15 academic departments that include both the basic and applied sciences. The College has nearly 150 faculty and enrolls over 3,000 students as majors.
