Hi!  My name is Krystal Rogers.  In Senegal, most knew me as Maimouna ( my moon uh) or mounas (moon us) for short.
I graduated from Humboldt State University in December 2006 with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in International Studies, Studio Art, and French.

As part of my international studies program, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Senegal West Africa during the Spring semester of 2005.  I studied through an organization called the Council for International Educational Exchange (
CIEE), which offered classes in English and French at the private University of Suffolk.  This is where I took classes with fellow American students and had the opportunity to meet students studying from all over Africa.  I was privileged to receive a scholarship to help pay for expenses through the international institute of education’s Gilman Scholarship.

In the near future I plan to do some international volunteer work in the area of sustainable development and am considering a masters degree in sustainable community development. I am hoping to make it back to Senegal and West Africa as part of this.

For my senior project in French during my last semester at HSU, I wanted to make a website of my experiences and lessons learned while in Senegal to have a record of it and share them with friends, family and others who are interested in visiting or studying in Senegal.  This site may be helpful for those who are interested in international development work, environment and development, or what it’s like to live within the diverse and vibrant culture of West Africa.

So here are some my experiences!  I hope you enjoy them:)

Please feel free to read my journal entries, make comments, look at photos, check out my favorite links, and contact me with ANY questions about anything you see here.

If you want to learn more about me, check out my blog.

Jamm ak Salaam (Peace),
Krystal
