Athletic Training Education

Whether it´s children just learning a sport, professional athletes or everyone in between, recovering from injury means the difference between enjoying a healthy lifestyle and sitting on the sidelines. In a variety of settings–athletic departments, health clubs, professional sports teams, hospitals and more–certified athletic trainers work to prevent, assess, treat and rehabilitate injuries so active people can stay active. Want to get in on the action?

Humboldt State´s Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an option in Athletic Training Education (PDF) combines science-based academics with real-world experience, including work alongside the University´s certified athletic trainers serving our Division II athletics. We´ve prepared athletic trainers for 50 years, and we´re accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. With your acquired knowledge and real-world skills, you too will be ready for an exciting future.

Our students are eligible for the certification exam following graduation, allowing them to become certified athletic trainers. But with your knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, you may also choose graduate study or a rewarding career in any of a variety of health-related fields.

"Our professors at HSU were very encouraging. They always wanted us to do our best and interact well with all kinds of people. We worked with many different sports and sports injuries, as well as the different personalities that go along with them. That helped my confidence improve, and now with patients I feel confident in my ability and what I tell them."
