October 2006

Hi Everyone,

I hope this letter finds you all happy, productive and healthy.

I am writing to give you the heads up that I would like to meet with you in the next month to talk about the classes you are planning to take next semester. Please e-mail me the times and days you are available to meet, or come and write your name on a sign up sheet on my office door. You are also welcome to stop by for your registration code, but this is a very busy time for me and I may not have time to talk in depth to you about your schedule at that time. Remember I am in Founder’s Hall, Green and Gold room 166B.

Registration is right around the corner, and schedules are now on-line and at the bookstore. I will not be getting registration codes until the November 1. Registration does not begin until November 13, which is the week before Thanksgiving break, so you have plenty of time to get organized. I think it is a good idea to be proactive in making your academic plan. If you need assistance, there is a major contract with two and four year plans outlined on the LSEE website. Also, LSEE Peer Advisors Mary Cunningham and Andrea Berengue are happy to answer any questions for you or help you design a schedule. Their office hours are Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-2:00 p.m.. My office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 9-11 a.m., 12-2 p.m., 3-5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m., and Fridays 10-2.

Remember that I have magic numbers for LSEE 311, LSEE 312, LSEE 411 and LSEE 412. E-mail me or stop by for these numbers. Also, you have to register for both the seminar and a lab for all LSEE classes except LSEE 412 which does not have a lab.

PSYCH 213 was just cancelled for spring, so take CD 256 to meet that requirement. GEOG 470 is only offered in fall. Let me know how it was to plan your schedule this semester so that we can work out any glitches and major class conflicts for next semester.

Here are some potential job and professional development opportunities for you:

Before School Program Paraprofessional - McKinleyville School District Job # 1173

Recreation Leader - After School Programs
Eureka Parks & Rec.- Job # 154

Summer Bridge Resident Mentor & Fall Peer Mentor - EOP
Job # 1230

All job opportunities and workshops are posted on Springboard, on the Career Center’s new online job board. Students can go to http://www.humboldt.edu/~career and click on the "Springboard" logo to register. To sign up for workshops, just go to Springboard, click on Career Events, then click on the workshop you'd like to attend, then click RSVP.

Take care, and I hope to talk to you soon,
Yours truly,
Arianna
