Besides his activities at St. Mary's College, Dr. Keith Devlin is a Senior Researcher at the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University and a Consulting Professor (Research) in the Department of Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born in Hull, England, he obtained his B.Sc. degree in mathematics at King's College London in 1965 and his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Bristol in 1971.
He has held faculty positions at the Universities of Manchester, Lancaster, and Aberdeen in Britain, Heidelberg and Bonn in Germany, Oslo in Norway, Toronto in Canada, and Penn State, Colorado at Boulder, Stanford, and Colby College in the USA. Since 1987, he has resided in the United States. From 1983 to 1989 Dr. Devlin wrote a twice-monthly column on mathematics and computing for the English national newspaper, The Guardian. Besides his work on a number of television programs, he has written five research monographs, five mathematics textbooks, four general market mathematics books, and sixty published research articles. He is presently the editor of FOCUS, the MAA Newsletter, and a contributing editor for the AMS Notices.
