Placing Out of Developmental Mathematics Using ALEKS

If your your ELM score is less than 50, then your HSU Math Code will be 10, 20 or 30 and you will be placed into either two or one semesters of developmental mathematics courses. These courses are designed to prepare you for university level math and do not count toward your bachelor's degree. Failure to complete prescribed developmental courses during your first year can result in your being dis-enrolled from the university!

You can raise your Math Code and reduce the number of developmental courses you have to take (and therefore save time and money) by passing the ALEKS Intermediate Algebra Assessment when you come to HOP.

You can, and should, start preparing for your HOP ALEKS assessment now. To begin, follow these steps:

  1. Visit www.aleks.com.
  2. Click on the link "Sign Up Now" and enter the following Course Code:

      3MDR6-FVHNJ

  3. Complete the Registration Process by supplying the requested information. When your registration is complete, you will be given your ALEKS Login Name and Password. Your Password can be changed now or at any later time, if you wish to do so. Please keep records of your ALEKS Login Name and Password, as you will need them to access your ALEKS account.
  4. Complete the ALEKS tutorial and initial assessment.
    • If you achieve the minimum required score on your initial assessment, great! You will be asked to take the assessment again at HOP and your Math Code will be increased if you achieve the minimum required score.
    • If you do not achieve the minimum required score on your initial assessment, then you can use the learning mode in ALEKS to strengthen your skills before your HOP visit. You will have the opportunity to take the assessment again at HOP and your Math Code will be increased if you achieve the minimum required score.
