Degree Requirements

  1. Completion of an Environmental Systems program of courses constructed with a graduate advisor and approved by the faculty graduate committee. The program must include the Core Courses and an Environmental Systems Option. Background deficiencies may be rectified in the program with approved undergraduate courses.

  2. Completion of all Core Courses requirements:
    • SCI 501, 530, 698
    • An approved social science elective.

  3. Completion of one of the following Options:

    • Environmental Resources Engineering Option
    • Geology Option
    • International Development Technology Option
    • Mathematical Modeling Option
  1. Completion and oral presentation of a thesis of suitable quality for publication in a scholarly journal.

  2. International Development Technology students must complete a project.

  3. All students must file an Application for Candidacy before beginning the final 9 semester units of study. The Application should demonstrate that the course requirements listed above will be satisfied and that additional university-wide academic regulations will be satisfied:

    • At least 21 semester units must be taken at the home campus (i.e., the residency requirement).

    • At least half of the semester units must be at the graduate level (500 and 600 level).

    • No more than 6 semester units for thesis or project courses.

    • No more than 9 semester units for field problem, independent study, or thesis courses.
