Application Instructions: A Check-List

First, call or write us and we will send you an application packet. Please send application requests to:

Please follow these steps in order to ensure that your application will be submitted correctly and on time. We suggest you use this page as a worksheet, and check off each item when completed.

When you arrive on campus, stop by the Dean's office (Forestry, Room 101) to verify all paperwork has been completed. At that time we may be able to provide you with information about assistantships and/or office space.

Items for the Office of Enrollment Management

An APPLICATION INFORMATION booklet will be enclosed in the packet you requested from the Environmental Systems Graduate Program Secretary above. In the middle of this booklet you will find Application Forms A and B and a return envelope.

  1. Using the return envelope provided in the Application Booklet (call or write and we will send one), submit completed Forms A and B along with the application fee (currently $55) directly to the Office of Enrollment Management.

  2. Contact all your previous colleges, and have each one send TWO OFFICIAL transcripts directly to the Office of Admissions.

Submission of items 1 & 2 to the Office of Admissions should take place during the appropriate initial application filing period.

Fall Semester: November 1 to March 15
Spring Semester: August 1 to October 15

Applications submitted after the filing period will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis according to space availability. A late completion fee (currently $25) is imposed, in addition to the regular Application Fee, on applications filed within one month of the start of the semester.

Foreign students should also submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores to the Office of Enrollment Management. Foreign students should allow approximately six months for processing of their applications.

Items for the Environmental Systems Graduate Program

Submit the following items directly to:

These items submitted to the Secretary are in addition to any items sent to the Office of Enrollment Management (specified above).

  1. One copy of Part B of the Application must be submitted to the Graduate Secretary.

  2. A "Statement of Objectives" which must include: (i) Your reasons for pursuing a masters degree, and (ii) your interest in the Mathematical Modeling Option (Engineering, Geology, International Development Technology, Mathematics) of your choice.

    Please include with this statement a Resume of your post-college work experience (if any), or any other relevant information about your background and interests.

  3. At least two (preferably three) letters of recommendation from people who can assess your potential as a graduate student. These letters should be sent directly by the recommender (not by the applicant) to the Graduate Secretary, Environmental Systems Graduate Program. No special form is required.

  4. A copy of transcripts of all college work (this copy does not need to be official). In addition, submit a list of course work in progress and projected.

  5. Test scores from (i) the Aptitude (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical) section of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and (ii) the Mathematics subject GRE.

    The copy of the GRE scores does not have to be official (a duplicate of your student copy is acceptable). Students residing in a foreign country may request to have the GRE waived.

Applications submitted after these deadlines will also be considered, but applicants who meet these deadlines will be given first consideration. The university admissions office will not accept applications for Fall 1995 that are submitted prior to November 1, 1995 or for Spring 1996 that are submitted prior to August 1, 1995.
