Stopover Ecology

Populations of over 100 species of migratory songbirds have been declining for at least 35 years, and while much research has focused on breeding and wintering areas, inadequate attention has been directed toward understanding the birds' stopover ecology, that is, their habitat requirements, behavioral ecology, and energetic demands in migration. I have a long-term interest in examining stopover ecology of migrants along the California coast, where both bird habitat use and human habitat alteration are intense.
