The Stephen Lawrence case:  Racist oppression and "dread" in Britain is hardly a thing of the past.  Stephen Lawrence, a black teenager, was murdered by white racists while waiting for a bus in Deptford, Southeast London, one night in the Spring of 1993.  A 1999 report on the Metropolitan Police's handling of the investigation of his murder condemned the force for its pervasive, intractable, and institutionalized racism.  Here are some relevant links:
