The Add Folders feature allows you to create folders which help you organize and sort your course directory content. Folders make it easier to find documents by labeling specific content areas.
From the Control Panel:
- Click on the tab Main control panel.
- Click the Files link.
- Click a Make a folder.
- Type a description of the folder contents where it says Create a folder.
- Click Create.
Note: If you add folders or upload files to the Files area in the Control Panel, to them to show up in the course you still need to go back to your course page, turn editing on, select a topic or week and use the "Add files" menu to place the folder on your course page for your students to view. Click here for more information about adding files to your course. After you do this any files you place in that folder in the files area will automatically be available in your course.
You can add a number of files at once by first zipping them, then uploading the zip file, and then unzipping the files on the server. Click here for more information about uploading a batch of files at one time.
More Information
- Q: Can I move documents from one folder to another?
- A: Moodle does not function like your computer desktop where you can drag and drop documents from folder to folder. That doesn't mean that you can't move files into an existing folder. What you need to do is check the box next to the desired file, then click the drop down tab that says With chosen files... and then choose Move to another folder. Now, click on the desired folder. Once it has opened up click the button that says Move files to here.
- Q: Can I change the order of my folders?
- A: Moodle does not allow you to rearrange any of the folders or documents. They are ordered alphabetically with folders on top.
- Q: Can I add or move folders in other folders?
- A: Yes. Simply check the box next to the desired file, then click the drop down tab that says With chosen files... and then choose Move to another folder. Now, click on the desired folder. Once it has opened up click the button that says Move files to here. Or you can simply create a folder in an existing folder. Just do that the same way you created a folder normally.
