You can use the Assignment tool as a Digital Drop Box. This allows Instructors and Students to exchange files. The Drop Box works by uploading a file from a disk or a computer to the Moodle server.
Adding an Assignment as a Digital Drop Box:
- Chose the desired section for the lesson, and Turn editing on.
- Click the Add an activity tab to the right of the desired section and choose Assignment.
- Give the Assignment a name in the Name field.
- Give the Assignment a decription in the Description field.
- Choose the Assignment type from the drop down menu and select Upload and Review.
- Complete the rest of the desired settings, for more information click here.
- Click Save changes.
Viewing the Uploaded files:
- From you course page, click on the Chat you wish you modify.
- Click on the link in the upper right hand corner that says "View ___ [# of assignments submitted] submitted assignments".
- You will be able to see if each student has submitted a file or not. Those who have, you have the ability to download the file and review it. To do this, find the student you wish to review, if there is a file that has been uploaded, it will say "Student's current submitted file" and there will be a link below it. Click on this link to download.
- There is also a text box to write comments feedback. You may also make corrections directly into the file the student sends to you and then send the file back to them. Do this by saving the file that you downloaded from the student, and click Browse to find it and upload it. Then click the Upload/Update feedback for this student button. This will send your feedback and the altered file the student sent you, back to the student.
More Information:
- Q: Why can't my student upload a file?
- A: The file may be too big. You may change the settings for how big an upload can be from you course page, click on the Assignment you wish you modify, and the click on Update Chat. Scroll down until you find Maximum size. Use the dropdown box beside it to choose the max of the size files can be when uploaded. If there is anything larger than 20.5 MB, the file will not upload. Try compressing the file and see if that gets it small enough.
