When posting larger images, it can be helpful to compress them to prevent complications with the viewing and uploading of them.
Using PowerPoint
If you have a PowerPoint presentaion with many images and you wish to upload it to Moodle, it may be too large. To compress all of the images in the PowerPoint, simply follow these directions:
- Open up the PowerPoint.
- Click any image in the document, then look for the compress icon at the bottom of the page
and click on it. - In the "Apply to" section choose "All pictures in document".
- In the "Change resolution" section choose "Web/Screen".
- Make sure that both of the options have been checked, and click OK.
- Save the PowerPoint.
You may also use PowerPoint to compress an image you wish to post.
- Open up a new PowerPoint.
- Go to Insert > Picture > From file.
- Find the image you wish to compress.
- Once uploaded, click the image in the document, then look for the compress icon at the bottom of the page
and click on it. - In the "Apply to" section choose "Selected pictures".
- In the "Change resolution" section choose "Web/Screen".
- Make sure that both of the options have been checked, and click OK.
- Now, right click on your image, and choose "Save as Picture".
- Give it a name and don't forget where you saved it!
Using Photoshop
You may also use Photoshop to compress and resize an image.
- Open Photoshop.
- Go to File > Open and choose an image.
- Once your image has been imported into Photoshop, you may begin editing it. If you wish to change the size of the image go to Image > Image size. Adjust it as you see fit.
- To save it for uploading to the web, go to File > Save for Web. Adjust the quality as desired, to see the size difference, look at the bottom left hand corners of each of the images. This will tell you how the image size has changed.
- Click Save, name and save your file.
Note: Disregard the image that is left in Photoshop after you have saved the image for the web.
