Call for Submissions for "Transgender Lives and Experiences"

I currently teach a class called Transgender Lives and Experiences. Like many other individuals I use a number of books, a collection of handouts, books on reserve at the library, article available through online library reservation systems.

I am working with a small independent publisher to put a textbook together for classes such as the one i teach. I am looking for academic level material to include. I especially encourage material from the transgender community.

Ground rules for submissions

  • No identity can erase another. (i.e., trans women should not erase trans men, transsexuals should not erase crossdressers, gender-queer experiences should not eraase transsexual experiences (or the reverse of any of these), etc.
  • I recomend you read Jacob Hale's Rules for Non-Transsexua lWriting about Transsexuals, Transsexuality, Transsexualism, or Trans ____.
  • I encourage pieces to have supporting citations as well as pure experiential pieces.
  • Pieces should not marginalize another group (i.e., maginalization of people because of race, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation etc.) Like feminist bashing, "We aren't gay or anything" etc.
  • Submissions should deal with issues, information, ideas that are applicable to trans people's lives (i.e., no what if gender didn't exist, what causes transgenderism, and other questions that are irrelevant to trans lives)

Current Set-Up of my course (although this will probably Change

  • Basic Introduction to Trans
  • Gender Theory
  • Trans Histories
  • Issues
    • Personal Issues
    • Psychological Info/Diagnosis/Issues/Issues with psychological systems
    • Legal and Policy Issues
  • Trans Activism
  • A lot of miscelaneous information scattered throught the course
