Research Interests

I am generally interested in the behavior of social mammals, with a special focus on the reproductive behavior of social carnivores.
My work is primarily based on field studies and uses naturally occurring variation in wild populations to address testable alternative evolutionary hypotheses in behavioral ecology. I am currently involved in a collaboration responsible for coordinating and monitoring the translocation and reintroduction of African wild dogs across South Africa. See here.
Locally, I have started a research program on river otters in Humboldt County. Our research team is working on multiple aspects of river otter ecology, including 1) using genetic makrders to determine population number and structure and 2) elucidating the relationship between stress hormone levels and water quality.
