Degree Program

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Humboldt is divided into a "core of common courses for all majors and four "options": General (Liberal Arts), Performance, Composition, and Music Education. This provides maximum flexibility for you to become the kind of musician you want to be.

The core includes individual or group vocal or instrumental study, music theory, music history, world music, ensemble participation, and keyboard study.

The general option provides a liberal arts view of music with guided electives designed to provide a broad view of music.

The performance option focuses on a high level of skill in voice, piano, guitar or orchestral instruments with an emphasis on individual and ensemble performance.

The composition option provides a practical background in music composition with an emphasis on the use of technology.

The music education option prepares undergraduates to enter the professional preparation program which leads to a music teaching credential.
