| John
Brecher, professor at Humboldt State University, teaches strings, string
pedagogy, music fundamentals, coaches chamber music and conducts the
University/community Humboldt Symphony and the Intermediate Orchestra. He studied cello with Leonard Rose, Rudolf von Tobel, George Finckel and Leslie Parnas; attended many of Pablo Casals' master classes; carried out chamber music studies with Emil Hauser, the Juilliard Quartet, the Lenox Quartet, and Rostislav Dubinsky; and coached conducting with Howard Williams, Marvin Rabin, Robert Culver and William LaRue Jones. Mr Brecher studied bass with Rudolf Senn and has attended the master classes of many fine bassists, including Edgar Meyer. He has been the recipient of a George C. Marshall Fellowship, was a Bach Aria Group Fellow and a participant at the 1999 International Workshop in Glasgow, Scotland. In addition to his extensive teaching background, Mr Brecher spent almost two decades working as a professional chamber and orchestral player in Germany, Norway and The Netherlands prior to 1990, to which he occasionally returns for concerts and study. He is currently active as frequent recitalist, chamber player and occasional orchestral soloist. |
