Hours: Classes run Monday – Friday. Program assistants
preferably arrive 10 minutes early and stay after for about 10 minutes.
Assistants can help with one or more classes depending on volunteer’s
availability and preference.
Benefits: Experience working with children in a non-traditional
learning environment, work alongside experienced teachers and naturalists
and earn a positive reference upon successful completion. Other benefits
include Museum membership (value $55), discounts in the store, and stipend
of $100. (Interns are also invited to the summer beach party midway through
the season.)
Qualifications: Must like and have one year experience
with children ages 4 to 12. The volunteer is extremely important to the
class so be prepared to make a serious commitment to being there each
day. Assistants need to be able to take direction as well as able to anticipate
needs. Must be reliable, have a good attitude and communicate well. Possible
tasks include setting up activities, helping with clean-up, gathering
supplies, and supervising small groups for small amounts of time.
