Programs for Mixed Ages

Chemistry and Physics Discovery Day

Saturday, May 10
10 a.m. to 12:30 and 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Free admission

The HSU Departments of Chemistry and Physics host a drop-in, interactive workshop in physical science for children ages 7 to 14. The morning session will focus on chemistry, while the afternoon will be devoted to physics. In each session, children can engage in discovery-based, hands-on experiments probing the chemical and physical properties of matter & energy at a variety of stations staffed by students in HSU’s Elementary Education program.

Tidepool Treasures Lecture with Dr. Sean Craig

Thursday, June 5
7 - 8:15 p.m.
Ages 8 to Adult (minors are accompanied by an adult)
$2 members/students ($4 non-members)
(Participants in the Tidepool Treasures field trip are free.)

Come find out about the wide array of creatures that make their home where the sea meets the shore. See slides and hear about the interesting mollusks, echinoderms, and crustaceans that live in the ever-changing space between the sea and the shore.

Meet outside Patrick’s Point Park at 8 a.m. sharp to carpool into park or meet at Palmers Point inside at 8:10 a.m.

Live Bat Presentation

Saturday, June 14
1 - 2 p.m. (In four 15-minute presentations)
Free with admission
All ages welcome

Humboldt Wildlife Care Center returns with their big brown bat, a non-releaseable, teaching animal. Four, 15-minute programs are presented. Seating is limited to 15 people per session to reduce stress on the animal. This very popular program is first-come-first-served.
