HISTORY:

Racheal Williams removes invasive "Ice Plant" at Eureka Dunes.

The Natural Resources Club’s roots trace to the early 1970’s. One of the first projects implemented by the club was the Campus Recycling Program (CRP), which due to member help, the CRP program continues to this day.

After a drop in membership, the club was revived in the early 1980’s. With the leadership of the Mark Wheetley, currently Mayor of Arcata, the club was reestablished as a “Natural Resources Planning Club.” An emphasis was directed toward community and student service projects.

In the mid 1990’s the club joined forces with the California Department of Fish and Games’ Volunteer Restoration program. This program has enabled the N. R. Club to participate in a wide range of restoration events in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.

Since then, the club has collaborated with many other organizations in the surrounding community including:

-Humboldt Fish Action Council

-City of Arcata

-Friends of the Dunes

-McKinleyville Land Trust

-AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project

-Humboldt Bay Keeper

Membership has continued to increase as the club’s outreach has expanded. We are continually accepting new requests for our services and we are always looking forward to new partnerships.
