Public Health Nurse (PHN) Certification Program

Requirements for Admission to Public Health Nurse Certification Program

  1. Must be RN with Baccalaureate Degree in a field other than Nursing -or- RN with BSN Degree that did not include a public health nurse course
  2. •  Must be eligible for admission to Humboldt State University– online www.humboldt.edu
  3.   Call or email for an appointment with the Community Health Nursing faculty for a review of your RN/Baccalaureate Degree transcript(s) and course descriptions to determine which required BRN courses/content you will need to complete to be eligible for PHN certificate.

CA Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Requirements for a Public Health Nurse Certificate

Required:

Community Health Course: A one-semester (N462) course offered both fall and spring semesters at HSU.

Additional BRN Required Content (RNs will not be required to repeat course work.)

*The Community Health Nursing faculty will determine if you will receive credit for or be required to take courses to meet the additional BRN's required content. This will be based on a review of your transcript(s). You may need to provide course syllabi for validation of previous content.
