Transit System Info (Effective August 2004)

The Arcata & Mad River Transit System was initiated by the Arcata City Council to provide an alternative form of transportation within the city limits for all citizens, with the objectives of saving energy and serving groups such as senior citizens, young people, and others without automobile transportation.

Buses generally run hourly between 7 am and 10 pm on weekdays and less frequently on weekends. Limited summer and winter hours apply.

The cost of the system is offset by fares (25%) and revenues obtained from a portion of the state sales tax on gasoline (75%). HSU rates are subsidized by university parking fines.

A&MRTS is convenient and comfortable—serving to within 1/4-mile of most city residents.

If you need to get to the Arcata Airport or the neighboring cities of Eureka or McKinleyville please use the HTA Redwood Transit Service bus as the A&MRTS does not service those areas. The Transit Center near the plaza and the bus stop at the HSU Library are common transfer points to that bus line.
