The Elk River Wildlife Area
Like our neighbor to the north, Eureka uses a tertiary treatment process which utilizes the natural processes inherent in marshes.
Build in the late 1980s, treatment marshes and other marsh related habitat were created along the Elk River Slough. On its eastern side the Wildlife Area is abutted by US 101 (Broadway) and businesses like Pierson's and, across Broadway, K-Mart.
Sedge marshes and grass prairies are also to be found along the well-kept access trail. This area is one of Eureka's best keep secrets.
