Dr. Jeff Abell of the Oceanography Department is frequently looking to hire a few undergraduate research assistants on a temporary, part-time (occasional) basis.
The research project is a marine monitoring program in Humboldt Bay. The research assistants will collect a variety of identified biological samples, including phytoplankton and clams four times per year.
The students will be hired through the Humboldt State University Foundation. The positions are temporary and contingent on funding and the duration of the project. The candidates should have some background and interest in oceanography and marine sampling.
Requirements: Candidates must be current HSU students; ideal candidates will be highly motivated, and be capable of working independently as well as under supervision.
Desirable skills: Previous background, interest, and experience in marine sampling; successful completion of a Humboldt State or US Coast Guard small boat safety course is helpful, but not required.
Start date: Depends on field sampling schedule.
Salary: $8.00 per hour.
