FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to this semester's issue of the Osprey.
As a staff, we felt this issue needed a distinct theme, and decided to focus on Humboldt County's marginalized communities in order to give readers a different view of reality.
Reality can sometimes be harsh. Ask the heroin addicts whose pain and suffering far outweigh any high they receive from sticking a needle in their arms. Or ask the Eureka homeless whose daily survival depends on the Eureka Rescue Mission and St. Vincent de Paul. Ask Humboldt County's ethnic minorities, who appear to be completely ignored by the area's mainstream media.
Reality, however, is not always so dark. For example, it's reality that it's unusual for a Humboldt County-based band to make it past house parties and a rare concert on the University Center Quad. On the other hand, former HSU student Trey Spruance has found worldwide success through his bands Mr. Bungle, Faxed Head and Secret Chiefs 3.
It is also reality that this magazine could not be completed by myself. Thanks to a great staff for making this a team effort.
So kick back and enjoy this Osprey. I truly hope you do.
