Question:

That Discovery-Times Channel show also suggested the massive black hole in the
center of the Milky Way galaxy could become active again and wreak such havoc
in the galaxy that our solar system would be vaporized.

It was a frightening scenario. Is such an event unlikely?

Answer:

No, I would not worry about any vaporization scenarios! True, the black hole at the center of the Milky Way could become active again, but I doubt that would have any effect on us, except that it might make the night sky a little prettier. We're much too far away from the center for it to make any significant difference out here. Even if we were closer, there is no way it would "vaporize" us; the stars we observe in active galaxies are all normal.
