NOTE: Some one-unit courses may be offered as a weekend course or on a Friday and some courses are only taught every two years as indicated.



Admission Requirements:

Students are accepted into the program based on academic record, human services experience, demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, and the potential for becoming effective and ethical psychotherapists. Applicants are screened on the basis of their application materials as well as a personal interview. Approximately 10-12 new students are accepted each year, with admission during the fall semester only.

A bachelor’s degree with substantial preparation in psychology is required. A minimum GPA of 3.0, some experience in human services and in research, and goals that match the program’s objectives are expected. The following prerequisites are required to be completed before the start of the program:

Personality Theory
Physiological Psychology


Application Procedures

The application deadline is FEBRUARY 1, 2008. Materials should be mailed several days before the receipt deadline.

Submit the following to the Office of Admissions, Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA 95521, (707) 826-3947:

CSU application form. This general application to the California State University system can be obtained from any CSU campus admissions office or at the CSU website: www.csumentor.edu/AdmissionApp/ as of October 1. Be sure to specify Humboldt State University and Counseling Program on the forms.

Transcripts. Request two official transcripts of all college-level work. Current HSU students need not request HSU transcripts.

Resume of paid and volunteer work.

Letters of Recommendation. Send three letters of reference from university faculty or professional supervisors.

Autobiographical Questions. This is an important part of the application procedure.
