About the Club
Mission Statement
The Queer Student Union is a student organization on the campus of Humboldt State University and a standing member of the Multicultural Center, which celebrates both differences and commonalities reflected within the Queer Student Union and the campus community. The Queer Student Union's mission is to create a safe, open and confidential atmosphere where gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered people and friends can gather, openly discuss important issues and make new friends. The Queer Student Union will resist oppression from within the group and from the campus community. The Queer Student Union mission functions through socialization, education, and advocacy of it's members. Through a variety of the activities, programs and services, the Queer Student Union is to promote the empowerment of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered individuals and the community.
History
On December 11, 1991, the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Student Association was founded. In 1995 its members helped in the creation of the Multicultural Center, which the club then became a part of. In 2000 GLBSA changed its named to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Trangender Student Association and the next year became the Queer Student Union.
