Deadline for applications extended to March 17, 2008

The Computing Science Department at Humboldt State University (HSU) proposes to host a National Science Foundation-Research Experience for Undergraduates: Role Models in Sciences (NSF-REU-RMS) site. This REU-RMS site is implemented in collaboration with faculty from the departments of Computing Science and related fields and will host ten undergraduate research interns for the summer of 2008. Our program is open to HSU and non-HSU students.

Our program objective is to increase the number of future professionals in computer science, mathematics, engineering and natural resource sciences from traditionally underrepresented groups (women and minorities). We plan for our interns a practical and inspiring summer research experience to reinforce and supplement their regular course of study, build their leadership and teamwork skills, and motivate them to go on to pursue graduate degrees.

Our REU-RMS includes practical research activities related to Design in Computer Science and related fields. In collaboration with their faculty mentor, research interns will prepare deliverables such as posters and articles to be published in journals or conference proceedings. In addition to the research skills, interns will also gain expertise in scientific writing, communication skills, scientific reasoning and ethics. We are also planning a number of social activities and trips on the beautiful California North Coast.

You will learn a lot, have fun and get paid for it!
