V. General Forum
John Wu and Curt Barnes are here today for the new business of tabling and John is here for possibly approving a new constitution.
VI. Executive Board Reports
A. President : had to fill out paperwork. During representative and committee reports today, please hold questions until general discussion at the end. The reasoning for this is to allow people to hear what’s going on better. I suggest writing down on the back of your quarter-sheets if you have any questions, so you can remember them for later.
B. Vice-President : took stuff to rose from the RHA office today, trying to get constitution stuff down so we can add some new councils (milc, wellness)
C. Secretary : I’m alive, the end.
D. Treasurer : We had a BoF meeting this past Friday. It went pretty well, and only one person didn’t show up(Canyon). Our next meeting was supposed to be this Friday, but that’s NRAP so it’ll be next Friday instead.
E. NCC : Nothing to report.
VII. Representative & Committee Reports
A. RPB (Janine proxy) We allocated a lot of money to haunted jgc-$255? Janine finished buying candy today during 1-1 with Leticia. Once HJGC is done, we’ll move on to other programming. Fridays 3:30 Moonstone=ResNews committee! It’s kind of a big deal, so you should go.
B. ROBOT (Porchee proxy) VGC was this past Saturday. Pizza was gone fast, TONS of people showed up. It was exciting!!
C. ROCC : We didn’t meet last week. Still working on Expressions of Oppression.
D. NAKED :did a lot of stuff in regards to programs. Ryan left early before listserv was solidified. Allocated our budget! It’s bigger than the manor’s, apparently. We have one program that’s set up for December: a showing of “Sicko”, about inequalities in the healthcare system in the United States.
E. ResLife :NRAP is this coming weekend. We will be presenting last year’s masturbation program.
F. NRHH :Worked on Haunted JGC Event, discussed the Battle of the Brains event which has been postponed until further notice. OTM nominations are due by Oct.31st at 11:59p.m., and NRHH Fall Induction nominations are due November 16th at 11:59p.m.-send your nominations to nrhh@humboldt.edu
G. Creekview
drew me pictures! I <3 the invisible chinchilla. ^^) Finalized Haunted JGC budget, discussed future events. Our poster-making party failed. Sad day.
H. Canyon – no rep. “Canyon’s the new manor?”(James) Nancy proxies, saying that they went and got stuff for Haunted JGC.
I. Hill :The Hill Social that we had went wekk. We’re working on Haunted JGC, and possibly planning a dance?
J. Cypress :We are moving the Sex Outside the Box program to 2nd semester and combining it with the Act to End Sexualized Violence event. We discussed getting Cypress t-shirts and are waiting to hear back about estimated cost for them. We also talked about Haunted JGC stuff.
K. Manor
idn’t do much at the last meeting…planning on doing manor final’s packs(which will be done in garbage bags)
L. AS – not here…
M. UC Board of Directors :We met with Burt Nordstrom last Thursday. Porchee had to keep herself from falling asleep(kinda boring…), and Burt was a little late. We almost took his keys.
N. Alcohol and other drug – Janine responded to the two emails that were sent to us. Haven’t heard back yet.
O. SHAC – hasn’t met. There’s another person interested in SHAC stuff.
P. Rec Center – don’t have a rep, but we got an email about it…
Q. Dining Committee : BIG report, yays. First off, we’re getting two new soup canisters for the third floor of the J. We’re planning on having 2 veg soups and 2 meat/non-veg soups. They’re also going to have 2 shelves of lean cuisine foods and 2 shelves of Amy’s foods, as we have switched to some new servers that offer more variety (apparently, our old suppliers only had 4 kinds of Lean Cuisine stuff and the new people have over 20). We discussed the 5-week cycle that the J runs on in meal planning, and how the cycles are altered to experiment with recipes. We also learned about issues that are going on with local organic farmers, including aphid and worm problems that caused the J to stop purchasing items such as broccoli. The idea of concept-breakers was brought up, with the strawberry shortcake at the beginning of the year and last year’s sandwich day, unbirthday cake, and cupcakes. Nancy and Jannah suggested having a little heart or other symbol to denote “healthy” items being served. We discussed the problems that have been going on between our councils and catering, and it was suggested that 1)people pick up their food EXACTLY for the time it was ordered, that the person ordering and a catering person go over the list together TWICE(once when it’s being ordered, once when the food is getting picked up), and reminding that the workers in the J close at 6:30p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. If you are hosting an event on one of those days after 6:30, you might consider ordering from another source(Blue Max Pizza, for example) or picking up the food at 6:30(or whenever before that you have it written for pick-up) and then reheating it when it gets closer to your event time. It is hard for people who work in the J to wait for you, as they also have very busy lives. The cupboard is going to be worked on during Winter Break(a wall being knocked down to open up a new room), and the kitchen of the J is going to get a new linoleum floor. For Halloween, there are going to be two contests: pumpkin carving, and a costume contest. Bring up your carved pumpkins to the J and/or show up in costume. For the costume contest, someone will take your picture and everyone’s pictures will be voted on later that night.
R. Publicist (1) Micaela’s not here…she now has office hours, though.
Lynn wants to know what NAKED wanted on their flyers.
S. Advisors Nick: Dialogue on Race starts this week. Still wants to dye his hair black. Can’t find his white tension rod(…? He and Ryan, playing off each other)
Leticia: POTOWOT is going on this Friday. 130pm(we leave at 2). Renting a bus this week because we’re hoping for a big turnout. Going to be more educational this week, and then doing service, then coming back
Thursday, Nov8th-Tunnel of Oppression. We need actors and tour guides
Jan.26th, 2008 mini conference for all Exec council meetings. That weekend’s also Leti’s
VIII. Old Business Ryan moves, calvin seconds. 10 in favor, 1 opposed, 2 abstaining.
a. AS rep—Who’s interested? Ravin said she was supposedly interested, but we don’t know if it’s this week or next. Could be why she’s not here.
b. HSU Makes Peta2’s second annual ‘Most vegetarian-friendly colleges’ list: Go vote. Check the royal flush for details.
c. Student Rec Center Appointment: Linda Pereira sent Leticia an email about needing a rep from the student rec center.
Janine: do they have a date? I’m interested.
Leticia: I think they want to get everyone together and decide on a date everyone can go to.
IX. New Business calvin, lynn. 9 in favor, 1 opposed, 1 abstaining.
a. Campus Crusade tabling request
Hi, I’m John and this is Curt! We’re from Campus Crusade and Late Night with Jesus Bible Study. We’re planning on having a day for cleaning peoples’ rooms. If someone wants to get their room cleaned for free by friendly people, they will give us their phone number, and on our cleaning day we will call them and ask if that time is alright for us to go clean their room(the resident needs to be in the room during the cleaning).
We want to table Nov. 7-9th in the J for Dinner, and would clean that following Monday(Veterans’ day).
Nick: what’s your philosophy on this? John: we want to be a blessing to others. Nick: do you use this as a recruiting tool? John: Usually, no. If they want to talk to us about it, we’ll talk to them about it. Janine: As VP and in charge of tabling matters, there’s no time conflict with it.
lynn moves to vote, calvin seconds. 9 in favor, 0 opposed, 2 abstain. We’ll see them in the J for dinner!!
b. RHA Workshop day – planned for the 26th. Janine: during our exec board meeting, we talked about possible workshops that we’d be putting on, including how to write OTMs, etc. Also trying to get the Service Learning Center to do a presentation, and exec board peeps to do stuff. Trying to make it fun and not boring, but that kinda depends on the people. Jan. 26th, Saturday, will probably be about half a day. Attendance is mandatory/strongly advised. We’re telling you this far in advance in hopes that everyone can mark off that date.
c. NAKED for Mental Health Constitution James: let’s read from it!
Janine moves to put into discussion, Ryan seconds.
Leticia: Visitors? Clarified more to be like how ROBOT has off-campus people, and people who are only there for one or so meetings. Residents don’t have voting rights, only members do? Ryan: residents DO have voting rights. Leti: so what defines a member? Ryan: all residents are members.
Does anyone from last year remember anything that needed to be changed?
Nicole brought up representatives, but instead of always needing to re-ratify to include new reps was to already have it in the constitution.
ROCC and ROBOT are both not in it.
James: does Dining Committee need to be included? Jannah and Nicole: No.
Leticia: brought up something about quorum. Change it to accommodate the number of reps and guests needed (50% of exec board is 2, half of reps is 6, so you’d have to have 8 total plus 2 guests.) Also, treasurer and secretary positions don’t mention BoF or BoA (Janine). Ryan says he will work on it, then bring it back to the next meeting.
d. Wellness Council Constitution (moved to be right after campus crusade tabling) Wellness council has been worked on for a long time. We would do health and wellness events, did stuff at the health and wellness fair, got some ideas for programs (ie painting your hand and doing a big poster with other hands saying you’d abstain from drugs). We’re having a bbq in the spring with the alumni, and we would like to invite RHA to the bbq to have us ratify the constitution. It will probably be at Patrick’s Point. Porchee: If you want to be a council, you’d have to be open to ALL residents, and not just Tan Oak. Would you be willing to move to another location in the J, as it would be more difficult for people to access Tan Oak? Tan Oak is more convenient, but John will ask. Nancy: as long as someone’s supervising, the lounge door of Tan Oak CAN be propped so people can get in. Nancy: how long does it take to ratify a constitution? Janine: 3 weeks.
X. General Discussion
-Question about the organic products for Dining Committee. Would the price be adjusted to match the items, as opposed to inorganic items? Jannah doesn’t know. Can Janine email her the question so she can ask Ron at Dining Committee this week? Janine: Yes.
-For becoming an AS rep, they just need to go to the office to get the paperwork and submit it, and then there’ll be an interview with prez and then AS. Janine: there also needs to be a recommendation, I think.
XI. Announcements
Nancy: I forgot to add NRHH fall induction nominations due Nov. 16th, 11:59p.m. (send to nrhh@humboldt.edu)
Jannah: dining committee this week. 11am-noon, Ron’s office.
Janine: prize for best area room for haunted jgc-ice cream social! Go down to the info desk and vote!
Ian: Thurs-Saturday is the Humboldt Circus, $5, adult content. I think tickets are being sold through the bookstore, and there’s apparently an 8-ft surprise? Janine: what, James in heels? (Oh noes! Come find out, I guess.)
Lynn: Come see Urinetown, this week Thursday-Saturday
James: we were talking about our second event, for World AIDS day, in our exec board meeting on Friday. Nick then explains the idea of an AIDS quilt, paper prayers. James talks about doing an AIDS walk, as well. In order to do the quilting thing, we’d need people who can sew.
Tiffanie: would that be an organized aids walk, or just a demonstration? There was something in eureka last year that was supposed to be organized, but it didn’t really seemed like it. Nick: probably join up with an organized group
Lynn: the 1st is a Saturday. Try to do a luminaria for it?
Janine: Luminarias might not work with housing policy.
Lynn: what if we did it at a park?
Janine: we would still have to be careful…there are always a couple that catch on fire.
Motion to adjorn?
Ryan motions, Tiffanie seconds. 10 in favor, 1 opposed, 2 abstaining. Adjourned at 7:01p.m.
