ROBOT
Residence Official Board of Technology
ROBOT is a group of residents committed to sharing their love of technology with residence hall community. ROBOT works on a number of technological issues in the residence halls as well as throwing fun and informative programs for the residents.
Meetings: Wednesdays, 8:00 PM in the Mad River Room
COMMITTEES
ROBOT is unique in the Residence Hall Association as a council that does most of its work through various committees. This allows the council to get a lot of work done while still holding fun and entertaining general meetings. ROBOT currently maintains the following standing committees:
Activities Committee: This committee plans all of ROBOT’s programs. These programs can range from fun, social programs (such as the hugely successful Video Game Competition) to educational and informative programs (such as HTML workshops, or guest professor lectures on wormhole theory) to programs that give back to the community (such as electronics drive to give donated electronic devices to local charitable organizations.)
Epic-Alliance (Logistics and Mechanical Committees): The Epic-Alliance is composed of the Logistics and Mechanical Committees. This combined committee works on technological issues that involves the residents, such as getting cable TV in every room, lowering the costs of laundry, or improving the range of the ResHall wireless network.
Ministry of Truth: The Ministry of Truth is ROBOT’s publicity committee. They help advertise ROBOT’s meetings and their many activities. The Ministry of Truth is committed to finding new and unique ways to spread the love of ROBOT.
Web Technologies Committee: The Web Technologies committee works on and maintains the RHA Website, and is currently working on making the site both better looking and more functional. They also assist the Activities Committee in holding web-based workshops.
Sound System Committee: ROBOT maintains the portable Sound System that is available at the bottom floor of the J. The Sound System can be reserved by requesting a time and day from ROBOT either by attending their meeting or e-mailing them at robot@humboldt.edu.
T-Shirts Committee: One of the many great things about ROBOT: the cool t-shirts! This committee not only orders the t-shirts but also creates the design for them. This committee is currently working on the council’s fourth t-shirt rendition.
COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT SIDE-POLL
Taken from the ROBOT Constitution’s By-Laws:
“[The Chair shall] create a completely irrelevant side-poll, one per meeting, and to judge the results of said side-poll, so that the issue is resolved and a proper frame of mind is set for the general meeting.”
In the ROBOT Side-Poll, every resident gets four votes (one per appendage) to choose between the two items brought forward in the side-poll (or, should they choose, vote for Wookie.) These votes can be split in any way among the three choices.
Past Side-Polls:
8/30/06: Ninjas vs. Pirates (1. Ninja, 2. Wookie, 3. Pirates)
9/6/06: Legos vs K-Nex/Erector Sets (1. Legos, 2. Wookie, 3. K-Nex et. al)
9/13/06: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs Transformers (1. TMNT, 2. Transformers, 3. Wookie)
9/20/06: Batman vs Spiderman (1. Batman, 2. Spiderman, 3. Wookie)
