Rangeland Resources StudentsWildland Soils are uncultivated, natural soils that support herbaceous and woody plant communities which supply timber, wildlife habitat, livestock forage, watershed values, and other outputs.

Wildland soils managers work to prevent erosion, keep our surface waters clean, and help determine appropriate land uses based on soil resources.

In addition to foundation coursework in soil science, the Wildland Soils Option offers:

•  Coursework and field studies in Agroforesty

•  Instruction in Wetland Soils

•  Local soils experience: the ongoing Soil Survey in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties employs recent Humboldt graduates

•  Competitive preparation for Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) paid internships with federal resource agencies
