Exceptional Admission Information and Procedures

As per the CSU Undergraduate Application for Admission, "all applicants are encouraged to complete the 15 units of college preparatory subjects. If you are unable to complete certain requirements because of your disability, you should contact the Director of Disabled Student Services at the CSU campus you wish to attend to receive further information about you eligibility to attend the University."

If you have applied to HSU and are not regularly admissible because you do not meet regular admission criteria and would like to seek an Exceptional Admission Review, you will need to provide the HSU Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC) with the following (please note, you do not need to send disability documentation to the Admissions and Records office):

  1. Personal Statement: This may include a statement requesting an Exceptional Admission Review, reasons you were not able to meet requirements, subjects missing or areas in which you have not received a grade of C or better, how your disability has affected your subject/admission requirements, support services or resources previously used, why you are interested in HSU, academic and/or career goals, etc.

  2. Most recent documentation of disability. Please request or review Documentation Guidelines. Documentation may be provided by a licensed physician or, psychologist, audiologist, speech pathologist, licensed clinical social worker, rehabilitation counselor, marriage and family therapist, learning disability specialist, or other appropriate professional.

  3. Copy of your high school and/or college transcripts.

  4. At least two letters of recommendation. These may be a combination of letters from high school counselors, teachers, advisors, resource specialist, etc.

  5. Please send the above information to:
    Student Disability Resource Center
    Humboldt State University
    1 Harpst Street
    Arcata, CA 95521-8299
    ATTN: Ralph McFarland, Director

After Admissions and Records has received you application and evaluated your transcripts, and the above information is received and reviewed for completeness and disability documentation eligibility by the SDRC, your request will be forwarded to the Exceptional Admissions Review Committee for eligibility and status. This committee meets regularly and a decision will consider very carefully all the documents you have supplied.
