What Is Psychology? 2005, written by Pastorino and Doyle-Portillo.
Course Objective:
Goals of the Course: There are three major goals of this introductory level psychology class. The first goal is to expose the student to many of the areas in psychology and to help the student realize that psychology is much more than just counseling people and dealing with "mental" patients. The successful student shall recognize the different areas of psychology and be able to summarize the main features for each different area. The second goal is to generate critical thinking about human behavior and bridge the gap between what is demonstrated in psychological research and the experiences and observations of our everyday lives. The third goal is to stimulate insights into how psychology is related to many other academic fields. In one way or another, psychological principles can be related to your area of interest regardless of your major.
Grading Procedures:
Participation in Psychological Studies: As a student enrolled in Psychology 104, you are required to participate as a subject in psychological research at HSU. Your participation in experiments serves two important purposes. Not only does it provide you with first hand insight into scientific methods and procedures, it also creates a pool of available subjects for ongoing research at the university.
