About the Chair Founder, Kenneth L. Fisher

Ken Fisher and Stratosphere

Chair founder, Ken Fisher, examines Stratosphere Giant—at 370-feet tall, it is one of the world’s tallest redwood trees.

Kenneth L. Fisher is one of the world’s leading financial advisors. Fisher Investments—the global money management firm he founded less than a decade after graduating from HSU—manages more than $35 billion for Fortune 500 companies, prominent institutions, and affluent individuals.

Fisher is #297 on the 2006 Forbes “400 Richest People in America” list, with a $1.3 billion net worth. Beyond serving as Fisher Investments’ CEO, Ken is a prolific author. His Portfolio Strategy column has run in Forbes magazine for 22 years, making Fisher the fifth longest-running columnist in the magazine’s 89-year history. He has written four finance books, including his new New York Times Business Bestseller,The Only Three Questions that Count (Investing by Knowing What Others Don’t), which was released in December 2006.

Fisher is also regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on 19th century logging and has documented more than 35 abandoned logging camps in the northern Santa Cruz Mountains. Fisher’s interest in redwoods, however, isn’t constrained to the species’ role in history. He’s also deeply committed to advancing the world’s understanding of redwood forest ecology. In 2006, Ken Fisher established the Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood Forest Ecology. Fisher, himself, is an alumnus of Humboldt State University (Economics ‘72). In 2007, the university recognized Fisher’s many accomplishments in the world of finance with its Distinguished Alumni Award.
