Sociology Masters Program- Application Process

If you apply and are accepted into our program, you will develop practical experience applying research and theory while completing your degree.

In addition to building a strong foundation in sociology, our students are also trained either in applied Sociology or college teaching. Our applied students work with community clients on a wide variety of projects including community development plans, diversity trainings and program evaluations. Client work is based on student interest in combination with community needs. Students focused on developing teaching skills enroll in a teaching sociology seminar and assist department faculty with courses. They also have an opportunity to complete a certificate program in college teaching and intern at a local community college.

You will find information on applying for graduate study linked to the HSU Office of Research and Graduate Studies web site at: http://www.humboldt.edu/~gradst/. Follow the link for “Prospective Students.” You may print out the application form or apply online. The below checklist of requirements may help you organize your application:

  • Application Form (This is a general form used on all CSU campuses)
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Two (2) official copies of all transcripts
  • Application Fee ($55)

To assure that your application can be considered, please confirm that your file is complete before deadline (November 15 for Spring Admission, March 15 for Fall admission). Even if a reference tells you that her letter has been sent, it is always a good idea to check that it has been received and placed in your file.
