Docent Led Programs for Visiting Classes and Youth Groups
The Museum offers six docent-led programs for pre-school to high school classes. Each program lasts 30-50 minutes depending on the age group. The programs are interactive - incorporating real objects to be seen and touched (shells, rocks, dinosaur fossils), plus live animals, student skits, and activities that entertain while teaching about natural science.
Current program topics include:
- Redwood Ecology - Web of Life
- Reptiles and Amphibians
- Insects - Built to Survive
- Rocks and Minerals
- Dinosaurs and Fossils
- Natural History for Pre-schoolers
How to Register: Call the Museum (826-4479) at least two weeks in advance of your desired visit date. We charge $1.50 per student with a $12 minimum (no charge for teachers and adult volunteers).
There is a maximum group size of 25 students or one class.
Natural Curiosity Boxes
These boxes are designed for teachers to bring a little of the Museum into their classroom. For example our Birds box contains feathers, an owl "Dress for Success " kit, a bird's nest, a bird taxidermy mount, pictures along with descriptions of bird adaptations, and ideas for lesson plans.
Topics include:
- Birds
- Dinosaurs
- Local Fossils
- Early Humans
- Insects (coming soon)
Teachers may keep the boxes for up to two weeks. To look at or reserve a Natural Curiosity Box call the Museum at 826-4479.
