History of HSU
SWE Student Section

Students tried multiple times before they succeeded in chartering a student section of the Society of Women Engineers on the campus of Humboldt State University. In the Fall of 1996 a group of young women met and tried to do it again. A year later, in December 1997, the Society of Women Engineers presented the HSU SWE their official charter as a Student Section of the Society of Engineers. Hard work and perseverance paid off and today the section is small, but strong.

With approximately 18 students members, SWE at HSU is carving out its niche in the campus and club life at Humboldt State. Going on five years old, SWE at HSU is leaving its mark on the community and the student population. Our major project, the flume, this year encapsulates all we stand for. SWE has helped form a bridge between the engineering department at HSU and the Redwood Discovery Museum which reaches the children of Humboldt County.
