Aristotle's Triangle of Rhetoric
Reading "Judging
Distances" reminds us of Aristotle's triangle of rhetoric, so we calibrate
this model to represent the relationships in tone and attitude between
the reader and the text (in place of audience we imagine text, in place
of voice we imagine reader, and we keep the attitude to the subject unaltered).
We then apply the model to the narrative--that is, we adjust the triangle
according to the narrative's "orders," with the following results:
