Mary Cruse (film)

After moving away from Humboldt County for 20 years, Mary Cruse moved back to finish her academic goals at Humboldt State University. “I am glad that I lived in other areas and had opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to explore here, but now I feel like I am home, in this beautiful, nurturing environment. And they say you can never go back home!” Experiences included working in sales and marketing on a domestic and international level, living in Los Angeles, San Diego, Tampa, Miami and San Francisco. I came back to be with my father when he was dying and decided this was a time for me to start new beginnings. That led to writing for The Redwood Record in Garberville, getting my BA in journalism at HSU and an MA in film production. Other interests include working with WISH (the Women and Children’s Shelter in Southern Humboldt), and Friends of the Film Commission. I get away to film festivals as often as possible and thrive on working on documentary projects. Working with students has turned out Sto be one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. There is a lot of heart and soul on this campus.

Mary Cruse is currently teaching Art of Film and is the Faculty Advisor for the Humboldt International Short Film Festival.

Married with three beautiful dogs and four grandchildren.
