Scheerer (Film)
David Scheerer is an independent filmmaker who has scripted, produced
and directed a wide spectrum of films, including features, national
commercial spots and documentaries. Highlights include:
He is currently completing post-production on THE MUSIC INSIDE,
his dramatic feature directing and producing debut starring Amy
Redford, Mary Ellen Trainor, and Brian Wimmer. Produced using a
cooperative model he innovated, it is scheduled for a 2007 release.
In 1995 he produced FEDORA, a CINE Golden Eagle winning dramatic
half hour drama that aired nationally on Encore.
In 1997 he was the writer, producer, and director of the feature
documentary YELLOWSTONE: AMERICA'S EDEN, which won the Grand Prix
du Festival at Grenoble and was a finalist in competition at the
Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. This $550K film's recent 2006
broadcast garnered a 3/4 Nielson Ratings Share - indicating it as
one of the "most watched" documentaries on PBS.
In 2002 he directed a prime-time signature documentary for the
Discovery Channel entitled IN SEARCH OF LEWIS & CLARK. Shot and
broadcast entirely in component Hi-Definition, this work includes
extensive dramatic recreations to illustrate the archeological evidence
left behind by The Corps of Discovery.
In 2005 he produced a PBS half-hour documentary for American Fisheries
entitled RISING FROM THE SHADOWS: The Return of the Cutthroat Trout.
This work is currently airing nationally.
His current work-in-progress is being developed with Betsy McLane
as writer and Charles Benton as Executive Producer. It is a feature
documentary on Robert J. Flaherty entitled REALITY'S EDGE, funded
in part by a grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
This $1 million work-in-progress was a recent finalist at the Independent
Feature Project Market and Festival in New York City.
